Yeah mate, my fear was that it’s got Chelsea written all over it. As much as he’s grounded, he’s also massively ambitious and rightly so. He wouldn’t want just Champions League football, he’ll want to be winning it.

I’ve no doubt that he loves it at West Ham but he’s just too good to stay with us, unless we sign Diego Costa on a free and go on to dominate the league and Europe of course!

Re: Goodbye Declan
Was that the 41 questions Pagey? Gave me some "slight" hope as he seemed to suggest that he wanted to stay close to his roots so would he go oop north? Chelsea would then become the only option. Mind you plenty of footballers have left their roots for success and financial reasons and he wouldn't be able to wear Number 6 at West Ham would he !!

There’s a decent interview on YouTube now with him and Gary Neville. Rice comes across as so grounded and genuine.

Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Cheerio, here I go, on my way
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Not a tear, but a cheer, make it gay
Give me a smile I can keep all the while
In my heart while I'm away
'Till we meet once again, you and I
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Cheerio, here I go on my way

Not a tear, but a cheer, make it gay
Give me a smile I can keep all the while

Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend ever will
Loveliness we've lost
These empty days without your smile
This torch we'll always carry
For our nation's golden child
And even though we try
The truth brings us to tears
All our words cannot express
The joy you brought us through the years
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned our long before
Your legend ever will
Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
Goodbye England's rose
From a country lost without your soul
Who'll miss the wings of your compassion
More than you'll ever know
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Re: Goodbye Declan
There's no way Sullivan would want players in exchange for Rice.
Remember hopefully he'll be selling up so he'd want as much money from the sale that he can get

The sale price is already agreed (share option).

Players in part exchange, rather than straight cash, doesn't affect that sale price.

Re: Goodbye Declan
Agree with Charoo. According to transfermarkt it's nine first team players out of contract when the current season finishes. Areola, Kral, Yarmolenko, Johnson, Ogbonna, Fredericks, Fabianski, Noble and David Martin. The only ones who have potentially got any long term future are Ben Johnson and Areola.

Players 25 years old or under we have Diop, Fornals, Rice, Kral, Vlasic and Bowen. Nine of our current squad are over 30.

It's going to be a hell of a rebuild!

Re: Goodbye Declan
Percy we are going to have to replace about 8 or 9 players in the summer, due to sales, end of contract and retirement. We are going to have to buy some players.

Re: Goodbye Declan
I'm sure that Declan would show our support utter respect if he ever left and played against us.
When he went he went to see Dennis (Hornchurch coach)when Dennis was very poorly show's what a decent young man he is.
You never know he may stay with us but it's a career like any other !

Fingers crossed.

Re: Goodbye Declan
With Rice gone we will plummet down the table.
He has carried the team for two seasons, and 100m can't get us that player.

Re: Goodbye Declan
I just hope he handles it well, gives the club the respect it deserves when he come back.

I have no issue with Declan for leaving, the club should be building around him.

I’d rather see him at City than anywhere else - I’d take Nathan Ake in part ex.

However he and his Dad are Chelsea fans so I don’t blame him for wanting to go there. I’d want to play for West Ham if I were a pro - wouldn’t enjoy seeing it but I’d get it. Make Gallagher and Broja be part of that deal.

Wouldn’t want to see him at the bin dippers or Man U - but that’s not our choice is it.

If we could bring in the likes of Gallagher, Broja and Ake then it would make it more digestible losing him but you just know it will be a few loan options for some absolute shitters or Conor Coventry and “we tried”.

Always puzzled me Cole's reaction to scoring against us. Defoe always showed us more respect whenever he came back that's for sure.

Is that the same Joe Cole that kissed his Chelsea badge when scored at Upton Park ?

Re: Goodbye Declan
Agreed Alf, I could just about stomach him at City at a stretch but not Utd or Chelsea. I can’t see Chelsea would go £100 mill cash so it’ll be cash plus players and you’d hope we rinse them for quality players like Gallagher

Re: Goodbye Declan
Rice going was inevitable I suppose unless we got purchased by some oligarch or middle eastern "undesirables" :-(

Its where he goes that then becomes the "salt in the wound" and for how much and how that is spent and on who. I could handle a move to PSG or abroad. The best of a bad situation but I would assume it will be back to Chelsea to team up with his mate and revive the dreams his Chelsea supporting dad always had for him?

That will be vomit inducing but even worse would be Manchester United. In the UK, I suppose Citeh would be the best of a bad bunch? They already have the best squad and does not really matter to us but at least screws over the other 4 or 5 entitled rich clubs.

He did not sign a new contract for a reason. His Dad is the driving force so it will be the plastics. Just hope he shows the respect that, to his credit, Joe Cole does for West Ham.

Only upside with Chelsea is to try and get Conor Gallagher as part of the deal. Get someone like Bissouma too ( assuming he does not end up in clink with Greenwood) and we would potentially not come out of it too badly. Wont be the case I realise as this is West Ham but I can dream.
